Peggy Nelsen Davis (deceased)

Peggy A. Davis

1945 ~ 2014

PEGGY ANN DAVIS, 68 years, of Decatur, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska, where she had been a resident for the last two and one half years.

Peggy was born November 25, 1945, in Lyons, Nebraska, to L. Elten and V. Adene (Deman) Nelson. She attended elementary school at Deman District No. 32 and graduated from Decatur Public School in 1963.

On April 22, 1966, Peggy married George A. Davis and to this union one son, Tracy, was born.

Peggy worked for Plaindealer Publishing Co. Inc. for a time after high school and then was among the last telephone switchboard operators in Tekamah before the switchboard was eliminated. She then went to work at Woodmen of the World and then Mutual of Omaha. After her marriage they moved to Long Beach, California, for a year before returning to Decatur, where she did babysitting in her home. In 1978, she began working with Golda Stafford in the Decatur Village Clerk’s Office and took over as head clerk when Golda passed away. She held the position of Village Clerk until February 1999.

Peggy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Decatur and at one time was a member of its Ladies Aid.  She and her sister, Pam, and their mother, Adene, put up a Winter Wonderland for the Decatur Community for 18 years and a haunted house for the community for ten years. After former Gov. Kay Orr’s visit to Decatur and after sending her a video tape of their Winter Wonderland, Peggy and Pam were both made Admirals in the Great Navy of Nebraska by Gov. Orr. Peggy along with her sister, Pam, also served as Grand Marshals for one of the Riverfront Days Parade.

Peggy loved horses and while still in school she purchased her own quarter horse and broke it to ride, which she was very proud of. She enjoyed traveling to different areas of the U.S. and especially anywhere she could ride a horse. She loved being outdoors, whether it was gardening, mowing or whatever.

Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, father- and mother-in-law, Lenten and Eva Davis; brother-in-law, Wayne Wyland.
