Joan Taylor Burgett (deceased)

Joan Burgett, 75, of Decatur, NE, died Tuesday August 3, 1999, at her residence in Decatur.

Joan was born April 30, 1924 in Macy, NE, the daughter of Harve and Lorena (Scholtman) Taylor.  She grew up in Decatur and graduated from the Decatur High School.  On May 19, 1944, she married Emmett Eugene Burgett at Tekamah, NE.  From 1954 to 1965, the couple lived in Omaha, NE before returning to Tekamah and then Decatur.  They moved into Decatur nineteen years ago.  She was a teacher's aide at Decatur Public School and Walthill Public School.  Mr. Burgett died August 13, 1984 in Omaha, NE.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Decatur and formerly a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Decatur.  She taught ceramics out of her home, loved to cook, and have family gatherings.  She liked to have company and to garden.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Jack and Jennie of Decatur and Michael and Peggy of Omaha, NE; 13 grandchildren, 20 great Grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Arthur "Buster" and Jo Taylor of Hulen, Wyoming and Paul Earl and Carol Taylor of Tekamah, NE; four sisters, Lily "Sid" Ricken of Bancroft, NE, Shirley Mae Fisher of Lincoln, NE, Mary and her husband, Carroll Powley of Pender, NE and Frances Bohnstedt of Hennessey, OK and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; and one sister, Lena "Bid".

Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 6, 1999, at the United Methodist Church, Decatur, NE, with Rev. Harun Gatobu officiating.  Musicians were Ethelyn Brewer and Mary Bacon and the selections were "The Old Rugged Cross" and  "The Little Brown Church in theVale".

Casket Bearers were Scott Burgett, Lanny Burgett, Lance Anderson, Mark Craig, Steve Bone and Rich Bohnstedt.

Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur, NE with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, IA.
