We left Decatur and moved to Cheyenne, WY in December 1950 where I worked for the railroad briefly before starting a carpenter apprenticeship.  This apprenticeship was interrupted in October 1951 by greetings from the draft board, at which time I enlisted and spent 4 years in the Navy.

Upon discharge in October 1955, I returned to the carpenter trade until mid-term and then entered the University of WY, earning a degree in Civil Engineering in June 1959.  Following graduation, I spent 10 months with a private engineering firm before accepting a job with the Corps of Engineers at Lincoln and then Omaha.  After 5 years with the Corps, I spent 5 years with the Air Force in Las Vegas and Colorado Springs.

My next move was to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Kansas City, Salt Lake City and Silver Springs, Maryland for a total of 16 years before retiring in May 1986 as Chief Facilities Engineering Branch at National Weather Service Headquarters.  We then moved to Berthoud, CO.

After one month of retirement, I returned to work for the NWS as a part time consultant until 1989 when I accepted a full time job with Fluor Daniel, Inc. in Kansas City.  Fluor Daniel has been the engineering and construction management contractor for the Government during the installation of the NEXRAD doppler weather radar system.  I was involved in the initial planning for this installation while I was with the NWS and have now had an opportunity to follow through to completion of this project.  I am still employed by Fluor Daniel but, after 8 years of apartment living in Kansas City, minimal time at home, and the birth of our first grandchild, I now work primarily out of our home in Colorado.

I married a Wyominite in 1958 and this union has resulted in 2 sons, 2 daughters, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 son-in-law and 1 granddaughter who had her first birthday in April.
