DELRAY "DEL" HIGHTREE, 63 years of Fremont, Nebraska,

DELRAY “DEL” HIGHTREE was born December 7, 1947, at Decatur, Nebraska, to Kenneth “Red” and Pauline Hightree.  He passed away Friday, February 18, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, of lung cancer at the age of 63 years.

Following his father’s death, Del and his brother, Ray, were raised by his grandmother, Blanche Hightree. Del attended school in Decatur, graduating from Decatur High School in 1966.

He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He served at Fort Hood in Washington and in Vietnam.

On June 21, 1969, Del married Betty Teeters in Decatur.

Del had been employed at Control Data, and worked on power line construction at Schmader Electric of West Point. He also had worked in the warehouse at Norris Public Power of Grand Island and Kriz Davis in Lincoln and Fremont. Before he retired, he was as a blackjack dealer at Harvey’s and Ameristar in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Del was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Fremont; brother, Ray Hightree of Omaha; son and daughter-in-law, Del Alan and Tonya L. Hightree of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Robert Mackey of Fremont; two special grandchildren, Tyler Ray Hightree serving in Afghanistan and Hunter Rae Hightree of Fremont; four grandchildren, Austin James Hightree and Logan Xavier Hightree of Omaha, Lola Mackey and DJ Mackey of Fremont; two step grandchildren, Chelsey Mackey and Simon Butner; and foster daughter, Polly Clinard of Cedar Bluffs; two foster grandchildren, KC LeCrone of Fremont and Bobby LeCrone of Cedar Bluffs

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth “Red”; grandparents, Blanche and Earl Hightree; two aunts and three uncles.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Wednesday, February 23, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur, Nebraska,with Military Honors by VFW Gleason-Rogers Post No. 6926 and American Legion Rogers-Crum Post No. 215

VISITATION: The Family will receive friends Tuesday, February 22, 2011, from 4 - 8 p.m.at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah, Nebraska.
