GERALD E. MARYOTT was born March 12, 1925, to George L. and Carrie Etta (Worley) Maryott at their home in Macy, Nebraska. He passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, Iowa, at the age of 86 years.

In 1932, the family moved to Decatur, Nebraska and Jerry attended Decatur Public School, graduating in 1942. In October 1943,  he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in the Pacific during WW II until January 1946. Following his discharge from the Army, he attended the University of Nebraska graduating with a B.A. in Education. His first teaching assignment was at the Nebraska State Penitentiary and his first teaching job was in Macy, Nebraska. After earning his master’s degree in 1952, he moved to California and taught there for many years. He then went into administration until his retirement in 1981. After retiring from the California school system, he returned to Decatur. He loved the Indian heritage his entire life and had a vast collection of Indian artifacts, particularly that of the Omaha Indians. He could speak and write the Omaha language and had many Indian friends. Uncle Jerry also loved cutting and selling firewood, pumpkins and mushrooms. He loved casino gambling and buying and selling antiques. He was an expert “Antiquer”!

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Maryott (1998) and his wife, Jackie (2006); sister, Mary Janet Farrens (1995) and her husband, Merle (2003).

Survivors include a niece, Pamela A. Farrens and four nephews, James C. Maryott, John W. Maryott, Thomas G. Farrens and Michael R. Farrens.

FUNERAL MASS: Wednesday, April 6, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends Tuesday, 5 - 8 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service all at Pelan funeral home in Tekamah. Visitation Wednesday will also be held at the church one hour prior to services.

BURIAL: Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur, Nebraska, with Military Honors by VFW Gleason-Rogers Post No. 6926 and American Legion Rogers-Crum Post No. 215
